The Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course is for anyone interested in sailing, motor boating, sea angling, rowing or diving.

This course will give students the essential knowledge needed when afloat, from navigation to safety, seamanship, passage, planning, weather and pilotage.  It is an ideal precursor for those who crew and who wish to progress to Day Skipper standard. The online Essential Navigation and Seamanship Course is a fun way of learning the essential skills to get started on the water, with a flexible approach enabling all to learn where and when it suits. Students can take this course at their own speed, and anywhere where an internet connection is available. It is simple, with detailed diagrams and pictures for ease of understanding. An excellent level of knowledge can be achieved before going to sea; it is ideal preparation for practical courses. The course has been written by top RYA instructors, and created by award winning designers. Follow the excellent approach to becoming a navigator learn, try, test yourself.

To complete the qualification there are 11 modules, these can be completed at an individuals leisure and any problem or question at any stage can be passed to Sticky Stapylton, either by email instructor@sail-help.co.uk or phone 07973 798 169/01242 572 680, he is there to help.

  11. Passage planning (30 minutes)

We send out the course pack with everything needed less pencil, notebook and rubber.  With us  a pair of dividers made somewhere in Asia, will not be sent out, but a well designed and engineered device which will last years. Included in the course:

  • Course Pack, chart, plotter, dividers, course handbook, training almanac, exercises and an electronic chart plotter CD
  • Email or  phone assistance from Sticky Stapylton
